News: Exhibitions

Since finishing my MFA at Belfast School of Art, University of Ulster, I have been privileged to have been awarded several solo exhibitions.  I also have networked with many artists from University and in my local area along with being selected by established art bodies which has resulted in my participation in several group exhibitions.  I will continuously add to this space updating opportunities to see my latest work.

Royal Arcade Academy

I am very proud to be part of the Royal Arcade Academy's 4th annual group exhibition.  I was delighted to have 2 pieces accepted for this show that runs through October, 2025.  The exhibition features 120 works from 111 artists.

Fragile Balance at CCA

Fragile Balance is my third solo exhibition resulting from my award-winning MFA degree show.   The installation was unusual because it could only be viewed from the street through the large windows of the Centre for Contemporary Art in Derry.  The "Project Space" is closed off from the main gallery, which presents unique curatorial challenges.   The pieces chosen from my Afterwards installation highlighted the relationship between two species: Horseshoe crabs and Red Knots.  The ancient balance has been disrupted by human activity.  The exhibition ran from September 1st - 30the, 2025.

Afterwards at Platform Arts

"Afterwards" is ever-expanding and I have brought the installation to Platform Arts' new exhibition space at 39 Corporation Street, Belfast.  Afterwards is the inaugural exhibition for Platform Arts after losing their premises in Connswater.  The solo exhibition was an award for my Degree Show.  The space is large and full of light which has allowed me to use work I created but had to edit out due to space limitations.  The size was initially daunting, but as a solution, I have included my own "non-artefact based" work centering on the relationship between Horseshoe Crabs, Red Knots, and the pharmaceutical industry.  The exhibition runs from June 5th - 19th.  Open Wed - Sat 11 - 4pm.

Mater

A group exhibition at Down Arts Centre March 6 - April 5th.  The exhibition was timed to coincide with International Women's Day.  I lost my mother in 2022, and it has informed not only my work, but my life.  My mom passed the week before Mother's Day in Florida, and I went with my family to the local beach on Mother's Day.  I went in for a swim in the glass-like surf.  A small yellow fish swam under me along the full length of the beach and turned with me for the return lap.  When I got up to leave the water, the fish swam off.  I created a flip-book of the fish which I made into an animation and included in the exhibition.

Mom was a talented artist, but never exhibited.  I have her self-portrait which I exhibited along with my self-portrait etch.

Afterwards at ArtisAnn Gallery

My award-winning installation "Afterwards" is at ArtisAnn Gallery as part of the NI Science Festival.  The installation is a "fake" Victorian-style museum displaying  artefacts that describe a narrative around the role of horseshoe crab blood in the pharmaceutical industry, and the subsequent decline of a migratory bird that depends on horseshoe crab larvae to fuel up for their epic journey. The museum places the viewer in an unknown future time after a cataclysmic climate event.   The piece explores themes of sustainability, value. and balance.  The exhibition opened on February 5th and continues through March 1st.

Horseshoe Crab: Against All Odds

Horseshoe Crab: Against All Odds was a group exhibition in the Plymouth Center for the Arts, Plymouth, Massachusetts. My piece The Costs was one of 75 pieces selected I was able to travel to the exhibition thanks to a travel grant from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland (ACNI).  I had the privilege to attend the closing lecture by Deborah Cramer author of  The Narrow Edge A Tiny Bird, An Ancient Crab & An Epic Journey.  The lecture outlined the relationship between Horseshoe crabs and Red Knots, and how the collection of the the crabs for bait and pharmaceutical use has caused a precipitate decline in numbers of both animals.  Cramer described how the crabs covered the beaches in Massachusetts in abundance during spawning and now are a rare sight.  I had the opportunity to chat with her (I bought her book which she signed!).
